On Sunday, 8 June 2025, 3pm, the historic wine cellar at Old Nectar Gardens in Jonkershoek will resonate with the voices of some of Cape Town’s finest emerging talent in a captivating afternoon of art song. The concert presents a celebration of the nuance, poetry, and the expressive range of the art song genre, in one of Stellenbosch’s most atmospheric venues. A perfect autumn afternoon for lovers of fine music performed by the collaborative artistry of up-and-coming art song duos. Performers include soprano Carmen Traut, mezzo soprano Lusibalwethu Sesanti, tenors Jason Atherton and Van Wyk Venter, and pianists Dané van Graan, Seung-Ree Lee, Celeste Botha and Joshua Heugh.
Audiences can expect a colourful and evocative programme that spans languages, styles, and centuries—from German lieder and French mélodie to South African compositions and American cabaret. Each duo brings their own interpretative depth and flair to a thoughtfully curated selection of songs.
The unique venue—Old Nectar’s historic wine cellar nestled in the heart of Jonkershoek Valley—offers an intimate setting where music, nature, and heritage converge. With its warm acoustics and atmospheric charm, it provides the perfect backdrop for an autumn afternoon of song and storytelling. This Old Nectar concert forms part of a broader commitment to supporting and showcasing the next generation of classical musicians in South Africa.
Tickets include selected wines from Banhoek’s renowned Oldenburg Wine Estate and finger food at interval. Student / learner tickets are offered at R50 per concert at the door. Guests are invited to come early or stay after the concert to enjoy the tranquillity of the Old Nectar gardens.
