6 week Clay Basics: Handbuilding Techniques Course

Ages: 13+/Adult

Just getting started and wanting to dip your toe into the vast world of ceramics? Come build some simple, beginner projects of your choice. Miss Ruthie will teach students the basics of hand-building with clay. Students will learn simple techniques in slab-building, coil-building, pinch pots; how to use a variety of clay tools; how to apply different finishes to clay surfaces; and gain an understanding of clay and its properties. Each student will make several projects throughout this 6-week course, and will glaze as we go. Students are encouraged to bring along their ideas for projects, and notebooks/sketchbooks for note taking and sketching out ideas. Notebooks/sketchbooks are not required, the MAC has plenty of paper to use for these purposes.
