Alice Austen House
2 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, United States
Akin to Alice Austen and Gertrude Tate, Charlotte Russell Partridge (1882-1975) and Miriam Frink (1892-1978) were two women who lived and worked together in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for over 50 years. In As Ever, Miriam, queer author Faythe Levine revisits the hundreds of letters between the two women and explores how they say goodbye over this time. Though their queerness was never explicitly mentioned, the letters were filled with expressions of love towards their life and home together. Their most notable collaboration was in 1920, when Partridge and Frink founded and became co-directors of the Layton School of Art, where they would remain for thirty-four years.
The Alice Austen House is delighted to host Faythe for a talk about her many-year research process in making the book. She will also give a short reading and discuss approaches to working with various types of publishers, focusing on the positive aspects of small press.
The reading will be followed by a Q&A and book signing. Books will be available for purchase for $25.
