Tickets to this community event are completely free. Bring a friend, colleague, family member or anyone else who wants to know more about avoiding scams.
Scams are becoming more convincing, more personal and much harder to spot. From unexpected phone calls and text messages to emails that look just like they’re from your bank or a trusted organisation, it’s no wonder people sometimes feel unsure about what’s genuine and what isn’t.
How to be Scam Smart is a friendly, practical talk designed to help you make sense of it all. There’s no jargon, no judgement and no assumption that people are “caught out” because they’re careless. Scammers are clever, persistent and constantly changing their tactics - and that means anyone can be affected.
Many people tell us they feel embarrassed or ashamed if they’ve clicked a link, shared information, or only realised something was a scam afterwards. This session helps to normalise those experiences. It’s a safe, supportive space to talk openly, learn from real situations and be reassured that you’re not alone.
We’ll look at the most common types of scams people are encountering right now, the warning signs to watch out for, and the simple checks you can use to protect yourself. You’ll also learn what to do if something doesn’t feel right, and where to go for help or advice if you’re unsure.
This talk is relaxed, supportive and very much a conversation. You’re welcome to listen, ask questions, share experiences or just take away a few useful tips that might help you - or someone you care about - feel more confident.
Whether you’ve had a suspicious call recently, want to feel better prepared, or simply want to stay informed, this session is for you.
