Author Series: An Evening With Jack E. Davis

Join us for an inspiring evening with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jack E. Davis as he presents The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea. Davis traces America’s political and economic relationship with the environment from the age of the conquistadors to the present. Through a vivid history of the southern coast and sea, he reveals how the Gulf’s rich ecosystems and striking beauty empowered a rising nation

Presentation 6-7pm. A Q&A and book signing will follow, and copies will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be served.

About The Author:

Jack E. Davis is an American author and distinguished history professor at the University of Florida, where he holds the Rothman Family Endowed Chair in the Humanities and teaches environmental history and sustainability studies.

He won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for History for The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea. His other works include An Everglades Providence: Marjory Stoneman Douglas and the American Environmental Century, a dual biography of Douglas and the Florida Everglades; Race Against Time: Culture and Separation in Natchez since 1930; and, with Raymond Arsenault, he co-edited Paradise Lost?: The Environmental History of Florida, a collection of essays on the human relationship with Florida nature.
