WEEKEND WINE FLIGHT: The Wines of Greece

Greek wines used to be very popular in past centuries, they were one of the most coveted around the world. They were pioneers on the winemaking arts, and they were especially popular for displaying their produced wines on artistic vessels from several Greek regions. Greece has around 300 indigenous varieties, which are very characteristic due to their own character.
The range of Greek wines is wide. We may find dry whites, reds, sweet Muscat, generous reds and even some fresh sparkling wines. Greece’s annual production on wines reaches 600 million bottles, with a 70% of their production focused on white wines, where the popular Retsina Greek wine stands out.
Greek wines have maintained relevant even in today’s market, not only due to their origin and historical importance, but also thanks to their quality and amazing grape varieties such as: Assyrtiko, Savatiano, Robola, Vilana, Limnio, Mavrodaphne, Xinomavro, etc.
