About the event

“There is No Time Here”: Jun Fujita’s Legacy Through Visual Poetry
Join St. Paul-based, multi-disciplinary artist, Dawn Wing as she debuts her visual poetry chapbook inspired by the fascinating life and legacy of Jun Fujita, a Japanese American poet-photographer and environmental advocate. Fujita’s presence in Minnesota contributed to the protection of what is now Voyageurs National Park.

Dawn will discuss the impetus of her project, creative process and chronicles from the field: from traveling to Fujita’s birthplace in Hiroshima to his cabin on Rainy Lake, Minnesota. As an homage to Fujita’s pioneering spirit, creativity and courage in the face of adversity as an immigrant in the US, this event will occur on the exact day of his birth 137 years ago!

Dawn Wing is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
