Celebrate with us! � Join UQU International Collective and APS for an exhilarating evening of culture and community, with plenty of tradition and lots of fun, too. � There’ll be hands-on crafty workshops and fun games, tasty rice dumplings to eat, live music and dance performances, and even the chance to hop on a real dragon boat yourself! �
Originating in South China, the festival has been celebrated for more than 2,000 years, when it was a way to worship the Dragon God or Water God. The large wooden boats are shaped and decorated in the form of a Chinese dragon.
Workshops
Students will journey through five mini cultural workshops, each inspired by traditional elements and symbolic creatures from the Dragon Boat Festival:

Ever wanted to hop on a real dragon boat? This is your chance! UQ Dragon Boat Club invite you to a FREE paddling session on the beautiful Brisbane River at UQ Boat Club.

ALL paddling session attendees are required to sign a waiver PRIOR to the activity day.
A copy of the waiver will be emailed to you following your event registration. Please read this thoroughly, sign it, and return it promptly via email to

This waiver outlines that you are strongly encouraged to complete a supervised swimming competency test (400m and 2 minute water tread) with UQ Aquatic Centre prior to the event.
If you choose not to take the swimming competency test, UQ Union, UQ Dragon Boat Club, and UQ Sport will not be held responsible for any loss or damage suffered or incurred directly or indirectly as a result of your lack of swimming competency.
