Power Tools 101
If you have ever stared at a wall of power tools and felt overwhelmed, this workshop is for you. This is our most comprehensive introductory class, designed to take you from "inexperienced" to "competent" in a single session.
This class is practical and detailed with lots of hands-on learning. There will be 3 Instructors from the St. John's Tool Library for support and guidance. They will provide immediate feedback on your form, personalized tips on handling and the confidence that comes from having an expert right beside you as you make your first cuts.
What You Will Master
Strategic Selection: Learn exactly which tool to grab for straight cuts, curves, sanding, or fastening—and why.
Safety First: Internalize the essential "do's and don'ts" so safety becomes second nature, not a checklist.
Operational Fluency: Gain hands-on experience with setup, material handling, and troubleshooting common issues.
Tools You Will Use:
We cover the most essential lending tools in the library. You will get hands-on time with:
Cutting: Circular saw, Jig saw, Miter saw, Reciprocating saw.
Finishing & Prep: Angle grinder, Multi-tool, Sanders (various shapes/uses).
Assembly: Compressor, Nailer (Framing/Brad), Drill.
Specialty: Router.

All tickets must be paid in advance to secure your seat. All participants must sign waiver before class.
Absolute beginners are welcome and encouraged.
Age Limit: 13+ (Guardian required if under 18).
Attire: Safety first—wear comfortable, well-fitted clothing (no loose sleeves/strings), close-toed shoes, and tie long hair back. Be prepared to get sawdust on you!
