ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Ready to inspire your child's passion for cooking?

This 90-minute class focuses on safety, fundamental techniques, and the pure joy of creating delicious meals from scratch. Your junior chef will leave with new cooking skills and the desire to help out in the kitchen!

A Two-Part Workshop

Part 1. Slicing and Chopping Safely 101

Knife skills are the backbone of all great cooking. We'll dive deep into the fundamentals, teaching young chefs how to handle a knife confidently and correctly.

👨‍🍳 Kitchen Safety First
Proper technique for holding a knife and ensuring stability and safety with a cutting board.

👨‍🍳 Why a Chef's Knife?
The principle of "sharp is safer than dull," and why a quality chef’s knife is the best tool for the job.

👨‍🍳 How to Cut
Hands-on practice with kitchen staples: carrots and onions. These ingredients forms the basis for countless recipes.

👨‍🍳 Simple Meals
Some simple meals kids can immediately create using their new slicing and chopping skills.

Part 2. Making a Homemade Spaghetti Sauce for Your Family

In this practical application, kids will learn to ditch the jar and create a rich, flavourful "Spaghetti Sauce" entirely from scratch!

👨‍🍳 Selecting Ingredients
Understanding the role of fresh herbs, quality vegetables, and aromatics.

👨‍🍳 Preparation & Cooking
Learning how to sauté, simmer, and build depth of flavor.

👨‍🍳 Pasta Perfection
The basics of cooking dry pasta, including the use of salted water and how to accurately gauge how much pasta is needed for a family of four.

👨‍🍳 Bringing it Together
Combining the sauce and pasta for a complete, satisfying dish.

To ensure a professional and secure learning experience, every student will be equipped with a WÜSTHOF Junior Chef’s Knife at their station. The 4-inch blade is specially crafted for children from high-quality German knife steel. It features a 32° sharpening angle—sharp enough to safely glide through fruits and vegetables, but intentionally less sharp than an adult chef’s knife. It also has a rounded tip and an extended finger guard offer superior protection for young hands.

Take-Home Meal: Kids will prepare all the ingredients for a take-home container of a delicious Home-made Spaghetti Sauce, portioned perfectly for a family of four.

Buddy System: We set up stations for groups of two. We encourage your child to bring a friend to pair up with for a fun, collaborative learning experience!
