This Sunday 7 September we’ll be at the NCI Lookout Terrace on the Island in St Ives between 11am and 1pm for our monthly Seaquest Survey looking out for seals, dolphins and whales. We'll also be looking out for bluefin tuna and ocean sunfish which have also been spotted recently.
Two weeks ago we joined the National Trust and Cornwall Wildlife Trust for an extra Seaquest survey at Godrevy and spotted both Common and Risso's Dolphins.
We record all sightings and data about water users as part of the Seaquest Southwest citizen science initiative. Data collected right around the coastline is collated by Cornwall Wildlife Trust for use by scientists researching populations and behaviours in marine mammals and bluefin tuna.
If you’re interested in learning more about the amazing wildlife living in and visiting our bay, or getting involved in this and other marine conservation initiatives, do come along. You can just turn up on the day, or get in touch beforehand if you have any questions.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the weather forecast and sea conditions and will update this post if its too rough or unpleasant to hold the event.
Hope to see you on Sunday in St Ives.
