Directed by Kally Lloyd-Jones, conducted by Michael Downes and sung in Hugh Macdonald's English Translation, this intimate opera offers a medieval reimagining of Wagner's more familiar 'Tristan and Isolde'. Martin's haunting score carries us on a journey across the tumultuous oceans between our lovers, beautifully evoking their passion, love and, inevitably, their tragedy.

Sung in English by a cast comprised of some of St Andrews’ finest vocalists alongside highly regarded professionals, this production of 'Le Vin herbé' pays homage to the fact that it was originally written as an oratorio, and not as a full-blown opera with an elegant, stripped back production, created especially for Byre Opera.
