In August I'll be hosting one of the coolest, most fun tango couples around! Olivia Teixeira and Fernando Lima Tango will be here in DC at the end of August for all the fun: musicality workshops, pre-milonga classes, privates, and a performance.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 21
Pre-Milonga class from 9-9:30pm at the Milonga Siempre es Carnaval at The Three Whistles (2719 Wilson Blvd) in Clarendon.
Topic: Phrasing in Milonga – How to dance milonga in a relaxed way, moving away from the beat, alternating between milonga lisa and milonga traspie, and elements of the melody.
Cost: Free for pre-milonga workshop (9-9:30pm); $15 for the milonga (9:30-11:30pm) or FREE with order of dinner at Three Whistles.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 23
This weekend, join Olivia and Fernando for a special series on musicality. Through FOUR workshops they will take you on a wild ride of spicy movements, dancing elegantly, adding texture to the dance, and interpreting Pugliese. Basically, this weekend is all about helping Stella get her tango groove back (ok, so that’s not a part of the official description of the workshops, but hopefully y’all understand the reference).
Workshops will be held at Bienvenido Studio (7910 Garland Ave. Takoma Park MD 20912) with a special thanks to @Phil Jones for use of the space.
Topics (workshops focus on both roles):
- Class 1 (1-2:15pm): Tango Phrasing in Spicy Tangos – How to add spice to your tango
- Class 2 (2:30-3:45pm): Tango Phrasing in Romantic Tangos – How to dance richly and elegantly
Pre-registration price: $30 for one workshop; $55 for two workshops; $80 for three; $105 for all four weekend workshops

Pre-milonga class and a PERFORMANCE (**one and only performance while in DC **) at Milonga Fabrica at the Arlington Ballroom (5130 Wilson Blvd Arlington, VA).
7:00 PM, Pre-milonga class; Topic: Tools for Variation Interpretation – How to interpret the moment when the bandoneons are frenetic in spicy songs. Learn which movements are most appropriate and tools for the dance.
8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Milonga (performance around 10pm)
Cost: $25 for pre-milonga workshop, $20 for milonga. Only $40 for both class and milonga.

Continuation of Saturday’s workshops. Note: Workshops build on each other, but you can still attend today’s workshops even if you didn’t attend yesterday.

- Class 3 (1-2:15pm): Tools of Counterpoints – How to create different layers while keeping the connection
- Class 4 (2:30-3:45pm): Abstract Interpretation for Pugliese’s Orchestra – Learn how to interpret Pugliese: the orchestra considered the most difficult to dance. Understand the resources, the rules dictated by customs and traditions, and the appropriate repertoire for this orchestra
Walk-ins (i.e. did not pre-register): $35 for one workshop, $65 for two

Details on Private Lessons:
Private lessons will be held in Alexandria, VA (closest metro stop is Franconia-Springfield on the Blue Line); though if you would like to connect before or after the weekend workshops at Bienvenido Studio, that can be arranged. Price per hour = $110. Packages are available: if scheduling at least 4 private lessons, the price drops from $110 to $95 per class.

Once you schedule your lesson, to confirm your spot please Venmo me, Natalie Donahue, (@Natalie-Donahue-4; last 4 digits of phone number are 1835) with half the payment for the lesson. I will then email you to confirm the lesson and provide the location details. The second half of the payment can be made upon arrival.
Private lesson cancellation policy:
- Full refund if cancelling within 48 hours; if you reschedule to another time within 48 hours of your scheduled lesson time, your deposit will carry over to your rescheduled lesson
- If you cancel within 24 hours, you will receive a 75% refund
- If you cancel on the same day, you will not receive a refund

Bio: Olivia and Fernando are Brazilian tango teachers and artists, with a 30+ year career that claims several esteemed titles and awards, including the Nobleza de Arrabal. Having taught in more than 40 cities throughout Brazil, Argentina, Europea, and the U.S., they currently live, teach and perform in Buenos Aires. They are founders of the EsTudo Tango method, based on the tripod of musicality, Physics’ vectors and Laban’s movement factors. They are also producers of the EsTudo Tango International Congress in Buenos Aires, at the historical Marabú, and co-authors of the books “Temas de Tango - Argentina & Brazil” and “Solos de Tango”. You can find many of their acclaimed courses online under the name “EsTudo Tango.”
