The Lore Writers Club started out as a locally hosted alternative to National Novel Writing Month. But we were having too much fun, and decided to keep it going year-round!
We host write-ins at Nowhere's Store of Forgotten Lore on Thursdays every week. Additionally, there will be special events every now and then, such as round tables with locally published writers, writing challenges, and more.
What to Expect: Every Thursday, starting at 6pm, writers can come and enjoy the company of their fellow writers (and the peer pressure to actually write!) in a fun, supportive, and productive environment. We’ll have group word count goals and will help you track your personal goals as well! As always, outside food and drink is welcome, and we’ll have snacks and precious, precious caffeine available at the counter.
For those used to the NaNo way of doing things, or just generally interested in a more details, check out the following breakdown written by a previous Municipal Liaison:
- We have the ability to have people remote video call in via Discord to participate if that’s easier for them.
- Instead of the goal being a default 50,000 words, the goal is going to be something YOU set for yourself. This is to allow folks to set their own level of challenge for the event. If you feel less confident in a 50k word goal, then set yourself something shorter. If you feel adventurous, then set yourself a higher goal. The idea is to challenge yourself but allow yourself something that doesn’t feel TOO daunting! If 50,000 feels comfortable for you though feel free to stick with it!
- If you need help with accountability, we will help you! It's all optional, no pressure required, but we know that sometimes, that pressure can be helpful. We'll point you towards ways for tracking your goals, check in with you to check on your progress, or anything else you might need.
- Your writing does NOT have to be in the form of a novel. If you want to do a screenplay, a script, a memoir, or even a collection of short stories - pick the flavor of writing you want to delve into.
- This doesn’t have to be measured by word count. You can choose to measure by page count as well if that’s more your style! This is especially helpful if you want to do a script or screenplay.
