“Much of my life has revolved around fishing, specifically fly fishing. Family trips to Bennett Spring started it, and by 12, I could think of nothing else, studying anything written on the subject. It was good preparation for earning an advanced degree in fisheries biology, and eventually a rewarding career as a fisheries research biologist with the Missouri Department of Conservation.”
“I have studied fish in most of the aquatic habitats in Missouri, helped establish the management strategies for most of Missouri’s trout waters, and conducted research on Missouri’s smallmouth rivers, large reservoirs and small ponds. I was a fisheries research biologist for 17 years, then an administrator in progressively more responsible roles until retiring as Chief of the Resource Science Division.
I was the primary author of A Plan for Missouri Trout Fishing, the strategic document that still guides Trout management in Missouri.”
“Retiring from MDC in 2013 after 27 years, I taught fisheries biology classes at the University of Missouri for 8 years, and in my spare time, fly fished all over North America, New Zealand and Europe. Along the way, I met some of the world’s best trout anglers and was invited to be an official in the World Fly Fishing Championships held in Vail Colorado in 2016.”
“I started my fly-fishing guide business three years ago and truly enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. I love it.”
