Discovery Center Summer Game Jam

Get ready for a full day of creativity and competition at the DCS Summer Jam! A 12-hour game design challenge where you’ll build a brand-new board game or video game from scratch. Whether you’re a seasoned designer or completely new to game making this is your chance to bring your ideas to life in a fun fast-paced environment. The surprise theme will be announced at the start of the competition both in-person and online.

The event is open to participants ages 8+ with two categories: board games and video games. Each category has two divisions Junior recommended for grades 3rd-7th and Senior recommended for grades 8th and beyond. You can work solo or in teams and we’ll have volunteer mentors on hand throughout the day to help. A beginner-friendly “Intro to Game Dev” class will kick things off to get you started with confidence.

The competition runs from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on June 21. Winners will be announced the following day both online and during a small showcase for those interested. In-person participation is included with regular Discovery Center admission.

All submissions in the video game division will need to be submitted on the jam’s itch.io page and must be able to run on a Windows PC via native application or web player. For more details please check the submission requirements and rubric document attached below.
