✍️ Hard Topics: Writing With Care & Handling Difficult Content Responsibly
Some stories demand that we tackle hard, uncomfortable, or traumatic topics. The challenge is knowing how to do so with intention, care, and purpose.
In this class, we’ll explore the balance between portraying difficult material for meaningful storytelling versus using it purely for shock value. We’ll discuss how trauma functions in narrative, when it serves the plot or character growth, and when it may unintentionally cause harm or disengage readers.
We’ll also talk about trigger warnings, their role in publishing, and the different options authors have for using them thoughtfully and effectively. Whether you’re unsure if your story needs one or how to approach them without compromising your work, this session will offer practical guidance.
This class is ideal for writers who want to handle heavy topics responsibly while still telling powerful, honest stories.
