Screenagers Showing and Justin Patchin Presentation

Healthy WashCo will be hosting an event at the end of May in partnership with the Spooner Palace Theater. We hope it will be a positive family activity, but also an opportunity for individuals and families to learn more about the intersection of substance use, mental health and our devices. The impact of excessive device use on mental health has been known anecdotally for some time. There are now a number of studies that have independently shown a positive relationship between hours of screen time and self-reported symptoms of anxiety and depression.

It’s not lost on us that technology will continue to be more integrated into our daily lives, but we hope this small effort is a positive way to shine a light on its potential impacts. It might encourage students and families to maintain healthier boundaries with their devices as they head into the Summer.

After the free showing of Screenagers Under the Influence Justin Patchin, Ph.D. will be presenting. Justin is UWEC Criminal Justice professor who has an expertise in cyberbullying and adolescent behavior online.
