November Lecture - Poggio Civitie's Etruscan Workshop: A Cross-Craft Perspective
Craft production in the ancient world is frequently analyzed by specialists who concentrate on a specific material or class of artifact, an approach that can overlook how production processes were interconnected through shared resources, technologies, or workspaces. In this talk, Dr. Donoghue considers these cross-craft relationships in a 7th-century BCE Etruscan workshop at the site of Poggio Civitate. By exploring activity within and around this structure, this talk demonstrates that workshop labor was highly specialized and carried out by craftspeople who worked across multiple media or collaborated closely with others.
The Spokane Chapter of the AIA is proud to provide a lecture series from September - April on various archaeological topics. The AIA promotes archaeological inquiry and public understanding of the material record of the human past to foster an appreciation of diverse cultures and our shared humanity.
