About The Roses of Port Townsend
Single mom braves haunted city with her sons and their dogs in search of a job. Battles supernatural beings, grows killer tomatoes and uncovers a pirate's secret. Will they survive? Mystery unfolds!
In the heart of the book, "The Roses of Port Townsend", you will meet Mandy Rose, a resilient schoolteacher, whose husband is missing under mysterious circumstances. Forced to leave her home in Olympia due to her school's closure, she ventures on a daring journey with sons Max and Oscar to Port Townsend, a quaint Victorian era seaport city. Despite warnings of its eerie aura and alleged hauntings from her brother, Leo, Mandy follows the path that fate has laid down for her. The Rose family's strength is truly tested as they confront the chilling mysteries of this Victorian city.
Mandy, Max and Oscar, and their loyal dogs, Josie and Bone, delve into a world that transcends the realm of the ordinary. The city's scenic tranquility belies the dangers that lurk within, as the family stumbles upon supernatural beings. The Rose family is welcomed by new friends in Port Townsend; Max and Oscar develop budding romances; family members come to the rescue; and together they all become amateur detectives in the most important missing persons case they will ever face.
Not all is as it seems in this city, where an unusual tomato garden holds lethal surprises, and a pirate's secret could be the key to their survival. As Mandy and her family navigate through the labyrinth of Port Townsend, they uncover truths that could shatter their reality. What started as a quest for employment soon turns into a race against time as they struggle to find Mandy's husband, and to discover the secrets of their new home, Victorian cottage, "Little Red."
The Roses of Port Townsend is a thrill-ride of whimsy, suspense, mystery, and danger. The book weaves an enchanting tapestry of suspense, magical realism, and the strength of a mother's love. As Mandy battles the unknown, the question remains-will the Rose family bloom again in Port Townsend, or will they wilt under its haunting spell? Dive into the pages of this riveting tale to find out!
About the author
Ethel Steinmetz Marmont is recognized for her distinctive blend of political commentary and supernatural storytelling. Her career in public service culminated in a master’s degree in public administration from The Evergreen State College. Since retiring, she has contributed numerous political opinion articles to local publications. Ethel’s passion for fantasy storytelling shines through in her novel, "The Roses of Port Townsend." The daughter of public school educators, Ethel grew up in Omak, Washington. Ethel later became familiar with Western Washington while working for the government in Olympia. She eventually settled along the coast of Washington State, living on Camano Island and later at the edge of the Salish Sea in Ferndale, Washington.
Steinmetz Marmont's concept for the novel developed over time. Many years before she wrote the novel, she spent the Easter weekend at Manresa Castle with her sons, Ian and Ryan. They traveled from Olympia to Port Townsend. Manresa Castle was reportedly haunted and featured on shows such as "Ghost Adventures." While there, the amateur ghost hunters took photos and captured several images featuring orbs. She states, "In one photo, there was an orb above each of our heads, which was admittedly spooky."
Over the years, Ethel and her husband, Jim, visited Port Townsend on numerous occasions. During an anniversary trip, she began writing the plot for "The Roses of Port Townsend." Ethel and Jim currently reside in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with their fluffy dachshund, Charlie.
About By Force and Fear, A Stolen Homeland
"By Force and Fear: A Stolen Homeland" is based on the true stories of Chnals, a twelve-year-old German-Russian boy with unusual faith and courage in desperate times. On February 8, 1918, a thousand-man army of Tatars, on horseback, raced down the Caucasus Mountains onto the unsuspecting German villages below. Within hours Chnals turns into a man as he takes charge of the younger children in the family.
The setting is Southern Russia near the Caspian Sea, and north of the Caucasus Mountains, during the beginning of the Russian Revolution and communism. The Czar has been dethroned, and anarchy is sweeping the country.
The stories, based on real life events, tell of Chnals's escape to freedom to own his land, freedom to speak his truth, freedom to worship, Running, hiding, laughing, crying, his words echo the true sacrifices our ancestors and many people today are still making to obtain liberty.
Inspired by her father's stories, young Anna, the author, relives her father's deeply traumatic young life through his many memories, with much deeper understanding and love.
It is now a hundred years ago (August 8,1924) that the family escaped Ukraine and landed in Quebec, Canada. The question that still lingers in Anna's mind is simple. "Why? Why are we reliving the same story again?"
