Theater on the Verge’s November production of JOHN & JEN hit a minor snag last week: our lead actress landed an amazing opportunity she couldn’t pass up. We’re thrilled for her—but now we need to find someone else for the role. Auditions will be held on Monday, September 29.
ABOUT THE SHOW: Set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing America, John & Jen tells the story of a sister and brother growing up in the 1950s and ‘60s, and later of a mother raising her son in the 1980s and ‘90s. With a cast of only two actors, the show is a deeply personal look at the challenge of moving forward while honoring the past.
ABOUT THE ROLE: Jen (female-identifying, late teens–40s) carries the heart of the story. The role requires a vocal range of G3–C6 with strong mix/belt and the ability to sustain emotional storytelling through song. (Please note: the role of John has already been cast.)
WHAT TO PREPARE: Please prepare 16–32 bars (~1 minute) of a contemporary musical theatre number that showcases your range and acting ability. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided. No a capella numbers, please.
