Transform a professionally thrown, leather-hard mug into your very own functional work of art! This workshop goes far beyond typical “paint a pottery piece” classes—participants will explore real ceramic techniques in a relaxed and creative atmosphere. Over the course of 2 hours, you’ll design, build, and decorate a mug that’s completely unique to you.
Techniques you’ll learn and experiment with include:
– Carving into the clay for texture and depth
– Slip trailing to add raised decorative details
– Appliqué with molded clay additions
– Underglaze painting for color and design
– Handle making and attaching to complete your mug
Once class wraps up, your piece will be carefully transported to the instructor’s studio, where it will be dried, bisque fired, glazed, glaze fired, and bottoms sanded smooth. Finished mugs will be returned in 2–4 weeks, ready to use and enjoy.
