Demystifying the Mississippi w/ Dr. Van Appledorn

Natural floodplains are among the most diverse and productive ecosystems on the planet, driven largely by flooding. The hydrology of the Upper Mississippi River has shifted over the past 80 years toward wetter conditions and larger floods. What does this mean for our floodplain ecosystem? Molly Van Appledorn Ph.D., Research Ecologist at the US Geological Survey's Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center, will explore how inundation patterns have changed across the Upper Mississippi River's floodplain since 1940, what inundation dynamics may look like in the future, and what the ecological implications of these changes may be. All ages welcome.
