About the event

Illuminating Bear Creek's Role in the Defense of Baltimore with Glenn Johnston
Illuminating Bear Creek's Role in the Defense of Baltimore: A Study of the Land and its People

Glenn Johnston will begin his talk at 1pm with an exhibition on display for guests to view at Todd's Inheritance.

For nearly two hundred years, the lion's share of research regarding the Battle of North Point was focused on the military aspects of that engagement. Recent research, however, has added a layer of knowledge about the social history of Patapsco Neck at the time of the battle. The principal investigator for that research, Glenn T Johnston of Stevenson University, will speak about the outcomes of that three-year research effort. Funded by the National Park Service and undertaken by a blue-ribbon team of historians--both academic and community—the research effort focused on the people of Patapsco Neck, their communities, and the influence of Patapsco Neck's geography on the defense of Baltimore in 1814.

Illuminating Bear Creek's Role in the Defense of Baltimore: A Study of the Land and Its People:
This exhibit will explore the history of Patapsco Neck leading up to its defense from British attack in 1814. The story is presented across ten large panels, each seven feet high by three feet wide, and covers the Neck's history from 1600-1815. Addressing the geography of Patapsco Neck, the people who lived there, local occupations, and social conventions, the exhibit was funded by the National Park Service and created by nationally recognized historians, community members, and researchers at Stevenson University.

Please come and join us at Todd's for this dive into local history. We will open our doors at 10am for regular tours and viewing of the exhibition. At 1pm we will pause tours of the house for Glenn Johnston's talk.
