Celebrate the Heart of Brazil – Dance, Culture & Community
Step into the world where music, culture, and movement intertwine. On Saturday 6 September at JT Dance Academy, we invite you to immerse yourself in the rhythms that shaped Brazilian Zouk and continue to bring people together across generations.
This event is more than a social — it’s a chance to trace Zouk back to its roots. Before Zouk, Brazilians were dancing Samba de Gafieira, Bolero, Lambada, Forró, and Sotinho — social dances full of rhythm, creativity, and connection. These styles laid the foundations for the Zouk we know today, influencing its flow, embrace, and musicality.
At this special celebration, you’ll not only dance Zouk into the night — you’ll also experience the rich tapestry of Brazilian culture that gave rise to it, through music, movement, food, and community.

2:00 – 3:00pm | Brazilian Social Dance Workshop – Open Level Intro Class
3:00 - 4:00 Intermediate Level ($35, both workshops, includes social entry)
Discover the roots of Zouk by exploring Brazil’s most iconic social dances — Samba, Bolero, Sotinho and more. Learn the rhythms, steps, and stories behind these dances, and understand how they shaped the Zouk we dance today. Whether you’re new to Brazilian dance or a seasoned Zouk dancer, this workshop will enhance your connection, style, and cultural knowledge.
4:00 – 6:00pm | Brazilian Social Dance Práctica & BBQ
Put your new skills into practice in a relaxed, welcoming space. Enjoy a traditional Brazilian BBQ (BYO food & drinks – we’ll provide the grill) while dancing Samba, Bolero, Sotinho and other Brazilian rhythms together.
6:00 – 10:00pm | Zouk Social – $20 (or included with workshop)
Finish the night with an unforgettable Zouk social with amazing DJ Grevo back on the decks. Dance, connect, and celebrate in true Brazilian style with great music and a vibrant community.
