William Mora Galleries is delighted to announce Steve Cox’s forthcoming exhibition, The Road to Ruin, starting on 21 August 2025.
In this powerful new showing of more than 40 paintings, Steve Cox explores familiar themes through a fresh lens—shifting between haunting portraits and melancholic landscapes. The works range from historic imaginary, demonic, or tragic figures to depictions of drunken sailors, criminals from the early 20th century, and Steve’s recurring archetypes: demons and dogmen.
The faces in these portraits are often distorted—sometimes by the artist’s own vision, and sometimes already so by the nature of their subjects—raising a quiet but persistent question: who sees what, and how?
“Each picture serves as a reminder of our collective frailty, illustrating themes of loss, nostalgia, and the relentless passage of time,” says Steve Cox.
With The Road to Ruin, Steve continues his evocative exploration of human vulnerability, offering viewers a dark, romantic, and thought-provoking journey.
