A FREE Show for Kids! Interactive Family Fun!
Young Shakespeare, a D.G. Menchetti Education Program, features an interactive, hour-long adaptation of our mainstage production created with the young audience member in mind. Performances are presented at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park and at other partner venues throughout the region. Young Shakespeare has connected over 80,000 children and their families to the classics since its inception.
This FREE program (suggested donation $5 per adult; $1 per child) affords an amazing live theater experience for young audience members and their families while simultaneously providing opportunities for young and aspiring actors from local schools to participate in the production as performers!
Join us this summer as the Young Shakespeare cast of professional actors and students from local high schools presents an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s delightful romantic comedy, Twelfth Night. This hour-long, interactive adaptation is specifically designed to entertain children and adults alike!
A shipwreck throws lives into disarray, where mistaken identities lead to hilarious havoc and unexpected connections. Viola, stranded and disguised as a boy, falls for the Duke, who pines for Olivia. However, Olivia, in mourning, finds herself smitten with Viola, setting off a comical chain of romantic entanglements. This delightful gem brims with wit, wordplay and whimsy to tell a timeless tale of love, loss and the joyous absurdity of life.

The D.G. Menchetti Education Programs
Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is proud to celebrate the legacy of Geno Menchetti, Chair Emeritus, by naming the theater’s educational programming in his honor – The D.G. Menchetti Education Programs.
As a founding board member of Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, Geno’s love and dedication to the Festival was paramount. His vision and determination to bring world-class live theater and entertainment to the shores of Lake Tahoe helped make the Festival the largest outdoor producing theater in the state of Nevada. He was also deeply committed to the Festival’s high-quality education programs for young people in schools and on stages throughout our region. Geno passed away on June 18, 2020. Although he is no longer with us in person and we miss him dearly, his spirit will live on at the Festival through its education programs.
The D.G. Menchetti Education Programs serve approximately 8,000 young people throughout our region each year. InterACT, an in-school residency program, brings Shakespeare to life for thousands of students in classrooms across the region. And Young Shakespeare provides aspiring actors from local middle and high schools the opportunity to work with trained theater professionals to produce free, hour-long adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays that are interactive and family-friendly.
Geno’s generous bequest to the Festival ensures the future of Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival educational programming for years to come. We are proud to honor Geno’s legacy and advance his commitment to inspiring children to achieve anything to which they set their minds and hearts!
