October Meeting and Program: Tarik Shahzad will be the speaker at our October 3, 2025 meeting. Thank you to Nick P. for helping me contact this speaker. Tarik Shahzad is a lifelong Chicagoan and naturalist who has dove deep into the world of urban birding. In 2024, Tarik set out on a Cook County “Big Year:” a personal challenge to identify as many unique species of birds as possible within a calendar year. With a retelling of his adventure, Tarik will impart his learnings about Cook County’s diverse natural spaces, the growing birding community, the steep decline of birds in our region, and how the environmental community can work to better protect our avian friends for generations to come. As a member of The Nature Conservancy in Illinois’ government relations team, he will weave in potential policy and advocacy solutions to our worsening biodiversity crisis. Be sure to mark your calendars so you don’t miss this meeting.
The monthly meeting of the The Sand Ridge Audubon Society is held at Sand Ridge Nature Center, 15891 Paxton Avenue, South Holland, IL. Refreshments are served at 6:30pm and the meeting and program begin at 7pm. The Sand Ridge Audubon Society is an environmental organization dedicated to conservation of birds and their habitats, as well as promoting other nature-related causes and activities.
Membership:
A reminder: September and October mark our annual membership drive. Memberships all end the 30th of September. Your dues are used to pay a gratuity to speakers and to print and mail newsletters to members that have limited or no access to the internet. If you don’t want a membership at this time, donations are always appreciated. We do not send membership cards through the mail however if you attend the meetings, we have cards we fill out for you for your wallet. The things we do as a group are important. We help make a difference! You may mail your annual dues or bring them to a meeting. We do not have the ability to take your dues online. Our annual membership drive continues for membership for Sept. 2025 - Sept. 2026. Individual Membership: $10.00 and Family Membership: $15.00 (two or more at the same address). Think about your friends and associates, are there any you could invite to a meeting? The more members we have, the stronger we are and the louder our voice when we are trying to make things happen. We appreciate everyone's support!
