Join Sonoma Ecology Center and Sonoma County Ag + Open Space for a late summer nature journaling experience at Sonoma Garden Park! Stroll the 6 acre garden and capture its secrets, beauty and bounty through drawing, writing, and photos. Learn from locally renowned nature journalist Sarah Reid. Whether you're new to the garden or a regular, practiced artist or a nature enthusiast, you'll have the chance to use your senses to tune into life on the land. We will hone and develop new tools as you practice the art and science of recording with drawn images and creative note taking. Experimenting with a few nature apps for the smartphone rounds out the meditative session. No experience necessary—just bring your natural curiosity!
Children age 9 and up are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
Please note: Parking can be limited, so feel free to carpool with a friend or park on 7th Street East.
WHAT TO BRING:
-Daypack or with water bottle, snack (optional), sunscreen
-Wear: Sturdy close-toed shoes, long pants (we will sit on the ground for part of the time)
-Blank book or favorite unlined journal and pencil (optional)
Sonoma Garden Park was protected by Ag + Open Space in November of 2011 for recreation and preservation of its natural resources, and learning classroom environment for agriculture field trips for nearby elementary schools through Sonoma Ecology Center’s “Growing Discovery” program . The 6-acre property, hidden in eastern Sonoma, is an incredible public park and working garden site in Sonoma Valley, containing a wide array of habitats alongside sustainably designed systems for both agriculture use and landscaping purposes.
There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.
