Jacob Benning’s path to the stage is full of twists, grit, and musical devotion. A Southern California native who later landed in Sonoma’s creative orbit, Jacob first picked up the guitar at eleven, chasing the dream of being in a band. Early influences ranged from punk (Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys) to AC/DC, but his sound blossomed into something far more expansive.
He and drummer/vocalist Will Cotter have roots as childhood musical partners—reconnecting years later to form The Jacob Benning Trio in 2021. Their bassist, Kevin Cole, came aboard through the local scene, bringing a polished, rhythmic foundation to shape their groove.
Their catalog includes evocative singles like High As the Redwoods, Light of My Soul, and Ol’ Ohio Prison—songs that balance longing, conviction, and melodic momentum.
