Join us for an evening of tabletop RPGs and hanging out with fellow nerds! We have an exciting roster of facilitated indie games, so snag a ticket for your adventure of choice, or just come hang with other folks in the biz. No need to be attending PAX to come to this — it's just a convenient time for everyone to get together!

ABOUT THE GAMES

Slugblaster

It is 2006, and on the new hit website "YouTube", a new topic is trending: slugblasting. Curious, you click a video. You see kids your age jumping onto skateboards that float just above the ground, traveling through colorful portals to other worlds. They film each other doing tricks: one does a kick flip over what they call the "quantum centipede", while in another video a small crew seem to be grinding on clouds of lava.

You. Are. Inspired.

In this game you play as punk high school kids with skateboards doing cool tricks in alien worlds. Your crew has been invited to party with all the big slugblaster on YouTube, and word on the street is that there's going to be a competition. It's going to the biggest night of your life, ever.

Your GM:

Jeff (he/him) has been running and playing RPGs in various systems for about 8 years, mostly with his friends. This is his first community GMing experience!

Slayers

The City sits at the nexus of the world. Once you're inside it, it is the world. Something drives the borders of The City ever-onward, crawling towards the horizon. Urban sprawl made real. Neighborhoods appear and disappear overnight, The City is filled to brim with no shortage of interesting characters, cultures...and monsters. That's where you come in, Slayer.

Slayers is a tabletop RPG of mercenaries and monster hunters for hire. Known by locals as Slayers, players wander a haunted city, cursed long ago to expand towards the horizon forever. Slayers help clean out the monsters that infest the alleyways and shadows, and those that the city seems to be manifesting on its own.

It's slay or be slain. Better get to work, Slayer.

Eric (he/they) is a forever GM, who turned their passion for telling stories into hosting an actual play podcast called The QueerXP. They're also a game designer and writer.

PIRATE BORG

This game is about being a greedy, filthy, scoundrel.

Find a ship. Recruit some crew. Raid, pillage, plunder, and otherwise pilfer your weasley black guts out. Get a bigger ship. K*ll some things. Upgrade your ship. Sneak into a fort. Raid a port. Acquire treasure. Bury said treasure. Become infamous. Search for someone else’s treasure. Flee in terror from unfathomable creatures from the deep. Drink all of the rum. Die on the high seas. Roll a new character and do it all again.

Are ye a scurvy scallywag looking to join a piratical crew setting sail in the Dark Caribbean? Join this game for a rules-light, fast-paced RPG that will be familiar to the d20 format of D&D.

Your GM:

Tom (he/him) is a Somerville local who played D&D "back in the day" and has recently rejoined the hobby. A regular player in a Somerville RPG meet-up, he's also run Pirate Borg at Pandemonium for Talk Like A Pirate Day.

NOTE: The GM for this unfortunately had a last-minute scheduling thing, so this game unfortunately won't be available this time around! (Eventbrite is making me jump through hoops to get the ticket page to actually cooperate, so I'm just leaving this note here.)

ABOUT THE EVENT

• Games will get fully underway by 6:15, and will end around 8. Hanging out is encouraged til 10!
• Materials will be provided for all games.
• Parking around Union Square can be tough. Please take public transport if you're able — the Union Square T stop is less than 10 minutes away, and there are several bus stops near by. If you need to drive, there is paid parking on Somerville Ave until 8pm, at which point it's free.
• Upstairs at Bow is the second-floor event space at Bow Market in Union Square in Somerville. To get there, walk up the Bow Market driveway, go to the lobby past Rebel Rebel on your right, and go up either the elevator or the stairs. The entrance to Upstairs is to your right.
• Masks are optional, but please let us know and stay home if you're feeling unwell.
• Drinks are available from Nook, the bar associated with Upstairs. (Please do get a drink, alcoholic or otherwise! We have a minimum to meet!) Food from Bow Market vendors can be brought in.
