Book Monologue is a two-day workshop led by Viktoria Staykova and Maria Valkova dedicated to the visual language of communicating through images. It is inspired by the publication Talk Soon by Erik Kessels and Thomas Sauvin. The workshop will take place in AVRTKL and will have two groups: one working with found postcards, the other with images discovered online.
Together, the participants will create a collective book where the images communicate with each other. They will share their perceptions of the world through exploring pictures, emojis, and memes as well as postcards, photographs, photo letters, and mail art.💡

🤝WHO?
🐝Viktoriya Staykova is an artist, graphic designer, and illustrator based in Sofia, Bulgaria. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Book and Print Graphics from the National Academy of Art and specialized in Illustration: Authorial Practice at Falmouth University, UK. Professionally, she works in the fields of book design and advertising. Her main interests in artistic practice are science fiction and urban environments. She is a co-founder of Avrtikl Bookshop – a bookstore for design, art, and architecture in Sofia, which also organizes cultural events and workshops. She is also a co-founder of TI-RE – a platform for independent Bulgarian artist books, founded in 2016, which organizes exhibitions and workshops in institutions such as the Goethe-Institut, the National Palace of Culture (NDK), and others.
🐝Maria Valkova is a freelance graphic designer and lecturer. She graduated from the National Academy of Art, Department of Book and Print Graphics. She specialized in illustration and typography in Germany and South Korea, and later continued to participate in various design-related courses. She works on book publications in collaboration with different artists and galleries such as Kvadrat 500, Synthesis Gallery, the Goethe-Institut, among others, as well as with publishers like Black Flamingo, NIKE, Avliga, Sofia University Press, and more. In recent years, she has developed as a presentation designer at 356labs presentation agency and as a lecturer at ARC Academy. Even during her studies, she organized workshops on hand bookbinding and continues to lead lectures and workshops on a wide range of topics for diverse audiences.

Book Monologue е двудневен уъркшоп, воден от Виктория Стайкова и Мария Валкова, посветен на визуалния език на общуване чрез изображения. Вдъхновен е от изданието Talk Soon на Ерик Кеселс и Томас Совен. Уъркшопът ще се проведе в AVRTKL и ще бъде разделен на две групи: едната ще работи с намерени пощенски картички, а другата – с изображения, открити онлайн.
Участниците ще създадат колективна книга, в която картините ще „говорят“ помежду си. Ще споделят своите възприятия за света чрез изследване на снимки, емоджита и мемета, както и пощенски картички, фотографии, фото писма и mail art.
🤝С КОГО?
🐝Виктория Стайкова е артист, графичен дизайнер и илюстратор, базирана в София. Завършила е специалност Книга и печатна графика в НХА и се е специализирала в Illustration: Authorial Practice в Университета във Фалмут, Великобритания. Професионално работи в областта на дизайна на книги и рекламата. Основните ѝ артистични интереси са свързани с научната фантастика и градската среда. Съосновател е на Avrtikl Bookshop – книжарница за дизайн, изкуство и архитектура в София, която организира и културни събития и уъркшопи. Виктория е и съосновател на TI-RE – платформа за независими български арт книги, създадена през 2016 г., която стои зад изложби и уъркшопи в институции като Гьоте-институт, НДК и други.
🐝Мария Валкова е фрийланс графичен дизайнер и лектор. Завършила е Книга и печатна графика в НХА, а по-късно се специализира в илюстрация и типография в Германия и Южна Корея. Продължава да развива уменията си чрез различни курсове, свързани с дизайна. Работи по книжни издания в колаборация с артисти и галерии като Квадрат 500, Synthesis Gallery, Гьоте-институт, както и с издателства като Black Flamingo, NIKE, Авлига, УИ “Св. Климент Охридски” и др. В последните години се развива като дизайнер на презентации в агенция 356labs и като лектор в ARC Academy. Още по време на обучението си организира уъркшопи по ръчно книговезане и до днес води лекции и практически занятия по разнообразни теми за широка аудитория.
