Next week, we're doing something a little different...
Snohomish County Parks invites you to join staff to care for trees planted at Field's Riffle on Monday, May 12 from 10 am - 12 pm. Acquired in 1999, Field's Riffle is a 62-acre undeveloped park property along the Snohomish River. After purchasing the property, the county planted douglas-fir and sitka spruce along the river to shade the stream, prevent erosion, and provide wildlife habitat. Wildlife at this park includes beavers, so the trees were fenced when installed to prevent beavers from eating them.
Now the trees need to have this wire fencing removed. Volunteers will remove as much wire fencing as possible from around the trees, prune the trees for access, and remove blackberry as needed. Come prepared to learn and to try something a little different!
Please wear long sleeves and long pants that you don't mind getting dirty, and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Bring a full water bottle and a snack. Hand tools and gloves will be provided, but you may bring your own if you wish. Remember to bring rain gear if rain is in the forecast.
The turn-in parking location for this park is very small-- it can fit up to four cars. If you plan to come in a group, please register ahead of time using the link in our bio and plan to carpool. If you would like to come, but are concerned about access, please email or call the organizer.
