The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification. To become a NRA Range Safety Officer, you must pass the RSO course and demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.
After you pass this course, you will be eligible to register with the NRA as a certified Range Safety Officer, which is a requirement for most clubs and ranges to work on a shooting range or assist at club shooting events. We will teach safe gun handling procedures, how to spot potential issues on the range, how to assist with clearing a stoppage or malfunction, and proper procedures for supervising and, when necessary, taking a firearm from a shooter in a manner that maintains safety.
We will have live firearms at this class for hands-on exercises, but NO LIVE AMMO is allowed in the classroom for safety reasons.
The cost of the class per student is $135, but for SSC club members, it is discounted to $90. This cost includes an RSO book and lunch will be provided as well. The class is nine hours and will run from 9 AM to 6 PM. To register for the class, click the link below and fill out the form. For any questions, contact Jon Hirons at
