Join us for a Two-Day Glassmaking Workshop with Crystal Schenk!
Dates: May 17th & 18th
Time: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts and Agriculture
Explore the art of kiln-formed glass in this inspiring two-day workshop with artist Crystal Schenk. Participants will learn to capture the intricate details of natural objects—like leaves and feathers—by creating one-of-a-kind glass impressions that reflect the beauty of the natural world.
Workshop Highlights:
Day 1:
- Introduction & Collection
Crystal will begin with an introduction to glass-making techniques, featuring live demonstrations and examples to inspire the works. Afterward, participants will take a reflective walk around the scenic Pine Meadow Ranch grounds to gather natural items to incorporate into their designs. Attendees will press these found objects into clay to create unique molds, forming the foundation for their glass artwork.
Day 2:
- Glass Casting & Design
Learn methods for layering glass, using frit for colorful details, and incorporating fossil vitra to add texture and depth. By the end of the day, participants will finalize their glass design, which will be kiln-fired overnight. Participants can choose to pick up their finished piece or have it shipped if they’re from out of town.
Attendees will leave with a beautiful glass artwork, perfect for display as a wall hanging or decorative plate.
All materials will be provided!
About the Instructor:
Crystal Schenk has been working as a professional artist for the past 25 years, and has been a college art educator for 19. Her experience ranges a broad variety of disciplines including, but not limited to, welding and metal fabrication, metal casting, kiln and cold glass, fibers, woodworking, jewelry and computer modeling. Since 2011, Crystal has been specializing in public art and design with her husband, Shelby Davis.
As a native Oregonian, she is intimately familiar with the mountains, waterways, flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest. Many of her favorite childhood memories involve scrambling over rocks, catching lizards, and playing in the woods. It is those strong recollections which shape her artwork and life today. She considers the mountains and the forest as her shrine, and her work draws its meaning and strength from natural phenomena, memory, and familial history.
