Shaping Our City Together
Join us for a dynamic community gathering where your voice matters and your ideas become action. The Community Action Forums bring neighbors, city staff, and community organizations together to tackle the issues that matter most to you—all through a proven approach that transforms conversation into real-world change.
Using our innovative Future Forum model, these gatherings blend the best of Open Space Technology with Asset-Based Community Development to create a space where everyone's wisdom is valued. If you've attended our Monthly Houseless Forums at Good NAtured on E 8th Street, you'll recognize this powerful format that keeps conversations grounded, productive, and focused on solutions.
Building Wellness at Every Scale
Our Civic Biodesign approach recognizes that community resilience begins with individual actions that ripple outward. When you start a neighborhood compost system, organize a block cleanup, or host a potluck dinner, you're not just completing a task—you're weaving the social fabric that sustains us all. These forums explore how personal wellness connects to neighborhood vitality and ultimately creates citywide resilience.
We'll explore practical actions that build community wealth and well-being: starting tool-sharing networks, creating neighborhood emergency response teams, establishing little free libraries, organizing community gardens, or developing local skills exchanges. These seemingly small actions create the conditions for connection, mutual aid, and collective power that allow communities to thrive in changing times.
Your Voice Shapes the Agenda
What makes these forums different? You—the participants—set the agenda. When you arrive, you'll help determine which topics we explore together. Through facilitated small-group conversations, we'll move beyond simply naming problems to crafting tangible action plans. Every forum ends with clear next steps, ensuring your time translates into meaningful progress.
City staff and department representatives will be present not just to listen, but to actively collaborate with residents. Together, we'll demonstrate how complex civic conversations can remain productive and lead to shared solutions that work for everyone. This isn't a complaint session—it's a workshop for civic imagination and community power.
Whether you're a parent, working professional, service provider, elder, or shift worker, we've created space for you. These forums reflect our belief that the wisdom needed to solve our community's challenges already exists within our neighborhoods—we just need to bring it together.
Host Your Own Future Forum
Want to bring this collaborative approach to your own organization, department, or community group? The Future Forum model can be adapted for any context where meaningful dialogue leads to action. City departments, business leaders, and community organizations are encouraged to adopt this framework to better understand and collaborate with the communities they serve.
Bring your questions. Bring your neighbors. Be part of building what comes next for our community.
