Description: Global Underscore (GUS)
The Underscore, a long-form dance improvisation structure created by Nancy Stark Smith, incorporates Contact Improvisation (CI) into the broader arena of improvisational dance practice. GUS centers around a yearly event in which the Underscore is practiced simultaneously for a 4-hour period by people all over the world near the summer solstice (northern hemisphere).
This year's GUS Sg site is facilitated by Sze and Daphne.
All are welcome, but you must be familiar with the Underscore practice to participate - please see options in the registration form below. Please contact us if you have any access needs. This venue does not have step-free access but we are happy to assist.

About Sze
Sze is a dance maker, film maker, sometime trouble maker, parent, writer and activist. When they first shared weight, they knew they had found home! Sze has found community in CI since 2011, facilitating and teaching CI since 2012 in Singapore and internationally. A fundamental part of Sze’s CI practice is in Body Politics, integrating a somatic understanding of the body with the wider context of how we move in society, how we perceive ourselves and are perceived, how we experience privilege, ability, identity, association and discrimination.
About Daphne

She applies principles form her studies in the School for Body Mind Centering®️, kinesiology, embodied anatomy & physiology through somatics, evidence-based research on the nervous system, trauma physiology, as well as Body Mind Centering.
She also has been dancing Contact Improvisation for more than a decade, and facilitates improv workshops using BMC®️ priniciples in embodiment and creative expressionsglobal Underscore
