Based on archaeological findings in modern-day Iraq, the Sumerians first came up with the written word around 3200 B.C. By that time, humans had already mastered another crucial skill: wine-making! The earliest evidence of viticulture goes all the way back to Neolithic times 8,000 years ago in Georgia—that’s thousands of years before the invention of beer, or for that matter, the wheel. Since then, wine has continued to play a key role in civilizations.
Well... we have already tasted wines from Georgia, and we are very familiar with California & Washington wines, France & Italy, Spain, and Portugal. While the history of wine is truly ancient, some of the most exciting developments in wine-making are happening right now. Several other unconventional locations also produce wine, adapting to extreme climates and unique soils that challenge traditional viticulture. From volcanic islands and Himalayan vineyards to tropical atolls, these producers defy expectations by creating distinctive wines with ingenuity and resilience. There are many wine regions to explore that many of us have never heard of. Grapes are now even grown in all 50 US states!
So, if you are bored of the same common wine regions like Napa Valley, Burgundy, or Tuscany, we have something fun and exciting for you with our 7 unusual wine regions to explore tonight. Take a trip off the beaten path and explore these unusual places for a delicious glass of wine — you might avoid the tourist crowds as well. Can you keep up with Where in the World is... Kasey & Suzanne?!
