COURSE DESCRIPTION:
What story have you always wanted to tell?
This hands-on class teaches new filmmakers to plan, shoot, and edit short documentaries. It covers visual storytelling through interviews, B-roll, and archival footage and photos. You'll create a short character profile of a person. Get hands-on and make your own short doc. Learn by doing! And help us inaugurate our new cameras!
To prepare for this class:
• Choose a person for your documentary. It can be a relative, or a local community member. That person should be available for interviews and tied to an interesting location or activity.
• Have a short pitch ready about why this would be an interesting story.
Additional information: Docs will supply cameras and equipment/software for postproduction (Adobe Premier Pro). Plan to spend 4-6 extra hours on shooting B-roll outside of class. Extra editing time also can be reserved during Docs In Progress business hours.
