We invite all businesses and residents of FREMONT COUNTY to build and enter a Scarecrow in our Great Scarecrow Contest 2025 this fall! Oct 1st is our goal for having all Scarecrows built and displayed in Gazebo Park, but you may put your Scarecrow up prior to Oct 1st, around The Gazebo in the Park. Prizes (to be determined) will be awarded on the night of Oct 15th! We ask that you leave your Scarecrow up through Halloween, however, to add to our SPOOK-TASTIC vibe around town! All of Fremont County is invited to participate in this challenge.
Business Rules are at the very bottom.
RULES--Scarecrow MUST be suspended on a crosspiece at least 5 feet above the ground as measured from the top of the head/hat.
Scarecrow must NOT be purchased in it's entirety from a STORE. You may BUILD your Scarecrow from purchased items, obviously, but it must be designed by you.
Scarecrow heads may be a variety of materials, including burlap sack, pumpkin (artificial or real), masks, or any other construction that suits the tradition of Scarecrows.
The Scarecrow MUST be suspended from the crosspiece, but it may be supported on the bottom by inserting it into the ground, by putting the base inside a bucket filled with sand or other heavy material, or by wiring the Scarecrow to the side of the Gazebo. PLEASE exercise care when doing this so as not to damage the wood surfaces. In other words, no sitting Scarecrows for competition. After you build your Scarecrow and have it in place, PLEASE photograph it and post it in this Event!
Scarecrow Essential Parts--These must be present to win! 1. Face 2. Shirt, Coat, Pants, Overalls, a Dress, Robe, or other costume. 3. Hat. 4. NAME. Yep. You have to give it a name. You may decorate or upgrade your Scarecrow in ANY OTHER WAY that upholds the tradition of Scarecrows.
Your Scarecrow must be durable enough to last from Sept 23rd to Oct 31st. We understand that weather happens. But, it is your job to keep the presence and spirit of your Scarecrow alive throughout the Spooky Season! Please visit your Scarecrow and spruce it up as necessary over the course of Spooky Season. And PLEASE retrieve your Scarecrow the weekend of Nov 1-2. If you do NOT retrieve your Scarecrow, the Parks Department WILL remove it and discard.

You will do an online registration, and we will keep you apprised of your judging date. We encourage all businesses, and EVERYONE in FREMONT COUNTY to take on this project as a challenge to really bring October into our county seat. It is a terrific way to spend the afternoon with your family as well! HAVE FUN!
Sidney Businesses--You may compete for FAME by constructing your own Scarecrow, or any variation thereof, for placement outside your business! Since you won't be competing for actual prizes, please feel free to build what you like, go crazy, and have fun! We'd love to have storefronts looking their best in Sidney during Sept and Oct.
