Q & A with Jeanne Bowman, Children's Book Illustrator

Illustrator Jeanne Bowman will walk young creators through the process of illustrating a picture book from start to finish with examples from her own published work. Kids will be given a blank booklet and the option to use an already written story or make up their own story to make a book of their own using crayons, markers, and colored pencils.

Bio: Jeanne Bowman has illustrated The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde, Charlie Russell and the Gnomes of Bull Head Lodge by Emily Crawford Wilson, Bob Marshall: Defender of the Wilderness by Linda Elovitz Marshall and Georgia Jipp: Blizzard Pilot by Laura Beth Dean which won the Bronze Medal for Best Illustrator in the 2024 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards. Bob Marshall was chosen for the Great Reads from Great Places children’s title by the Montana Center of the Book and won the Gold Medal for Environmental Issues Book in the 2024 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards. Jeanne has received the 2022 Will Rogers Medallion Award for Illustrator of the Year for her work on Charlie Russell and the Gnomes, as well as the Western Writers of America SPUR Award in 2022 and 2025. Jeanne is the Illustrator Coordinator for SCBWI Montana.

This event is for Summer Reading participants only, and attendees will receive a code word they can enter on ReadSquared worth 25 points. Children 9 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the event’s duration.
