Meet at start of Hanley Lane on Overdale Road, Bayston Hill and join me for a guided walk down to our local river and to the site of the proposed development.
I've seen Kingfishers, Otters, and abundance of trout at this beautiful place, and I wish to allow more people to meet our river so they know what we may have to lose if the planning application of 210 houses goes ahead.
It's also a great place for mudlarking and collecting weird things washed up on the stone beaches, and for cooling off in Summer (although pollution in the river is not ideal).
The walk will be very muddy along the river so wear wellies and suitable clothing. Approximate distance of half a mile to the Rea Brook, and 1.2 miles to the field of the proposed development, you can continue on to the Rea Brook Local Nature Reserve if you wish, but I will be leading the group back to the village. Bring your kids and your dogs, this is your local river and you deserve to know her!
If you cannot walk far, there is parking on Longden Road which you can walk along the old tram track which leads to Bayston Hill and see the Rea Brook from there, or I highly recommend visiting the foot bridge on Moneybrook Way in Meole Estate, opposite the shops, you can enjoy the river and the Nature Reserve without walking far at all.
