The Southern University Museum of Art at Shreveport (SUMAS) is proud to announce the opening of “This Is Us,” a powerful portrait photography exhibition by Shreveport-based creative Ron Brown. The exhibition opens with a special reception on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 610 Texas Street, Shreveport, LA 71104.
Ron Brown is a portrait photographer whose work captures the essence of everyday Black life with authenticity, warmth, and depth. Through intimate, emotionally rich portraits, she honors the people, stories, and cultural legacy of her community. Each image is more than a photograph — it’s a reflection of identity, resilience, and connection.
“This Is Us reflects my people, my roots, and the moments that shape us. These pieces carry our laughter, our scars, our beauty, and our truth. Through each image and layer, I’m honoring everyday Black life — the softness, the struggle, the joy, and the sacred. This is not just art. This is US.” — Ron Brown
In "This Is Us," Brown uses portraiture to spotlight the beauty and spirit often overlooked in mainstream narratives. Her lens is both gentle and bold, creating a space where viewers are invited to see—and be seen—with dignity and truth.
The event is free and open to the public.
