Watercolour Essentials – Beachscapes and figures
Create a striking and expressive beachscape using watercolour and add your own simple figures. In this one-day workshop you will be shown how to use a limited palette of three primary colours to create a beautiful Seascape with figures. This workshop focuses on building up your confidence in mixing colours to understand how to create colour harmony in your paintings. This workshop is designed for beginners as well as improvers and all are welcome.
COST: £75 per person (includes watercolours, Artist quality watercolour paper and some equipment)
What to bring:
· A round size 12 brush will be provided. Please bring some of your own brushes too if you have them and you’ll be advised on how to use them effectively.
· 2B pencil and putty rubber
In this workshop, you will learn:
· Wet into wet techniques
· Water control
· Advice on materials, colours and where to start
· Brush control and dry brush techniques.
· How to achieve a blended wash.
· Atmospheric perspective using transparent colours.
· How to create a convincing figure study within a Seascape/beachscape
· How to create a harmonious colour chart and choose your colours
Amanda spent many years living just five minutes from the beach, taking out her watercolours to record the light and atmosphere with figures at sunrise and sunset. She is excited to share her painting experience with you and has planned a wonderful day of expressive painting with watercolour. So many people get confused with which colours to choose and how to go about starting a painting. This workshop will help you keep it simple with comprehensive step-by-step instructions and demonstrations. From mixing colours to laying washes, creating dry brush marks and simple silhouette figures this promises to be a very enjoyable day for all.
About the Tutor
Amanda now lives is Yorkshire and designs and facilitates workshops in watercolour, wellbeing and heritage. She has a wealth of teaching experience running courses for museums, community groups and arts organisations. Before relocating back to Yorkshire, she spent 10 years working for the University of Oxford museum’s service based in the Ashmolean Museum facilitating arts events, sketching tours and festivals.
