Surprise Surprise, We will hike this Saturday......No, We're not hiking backwards!!;) - just taking a long route starting from Fujino-eki up the mountain to Jinba (panoramic views of the mountains surrounding, on our way to Shiroyama peak to have lunch with hundreds of hikers coming in from all directions, then ending our hike at Takao - all great views weather permitting. We will then have an option for an onsen before returning to Tokyo.
Our journey will start at Shinjuku station at 8:20 where we will catch the Keio line Limited Express (for Keio Hachioji) typically found at either platform 1 or 2, then transferring to the Keio Takao line (for Takaosanguchi) at 8:59 departure, transferring again to the Chuo Line (for Kofu) departing at 9:20, to then arrive at Fujino eki at 9:33. We will catch a short bus ride to our starting point at Fujino.
Please meet us at the front car of the Keio Line at Shinjuku station - front is the direction of the train upon departure to Kitano.
Please insure that you are well equipped with sunscreen, hat, hiking stick, hiking boots, bento for lunch, two to three liters of water and any meds you require. For those continuing to the onsen - an onsen towel will save you some money in addition to some clean clothes for the journey back to Tokyo. Takaosanguchi is then our return station to go back to Shinjuku on the Keio line. This hike will be moderately difficult going to Jinba but after that primarily just walking the ridgeline up and down. Our normal hike distance is 12-14 km. This one is around 18 but overall easier. Plus you can always take the cable car down from Takao.
This is a more agressive hike given the heat and humidity - so only the experienced hiker will complete this entirely. There are two ways to drop out early - Shiroyama exit to Sagami eki or take the Cable Car down at Takao Mt top. Hiking insurance is recommended but not mandatory. If you are afraid of whether you cannot complete this, consider staying home or taking an early exit. You must carry ample water for this hike due to the dehydration given the heat and humidity.
