We are pleased to announce that this year’s Fairley La Trobe Lecture will be presented by the Hon. John Brumby AO, Chancellor of La Trobe University.
From the Local to the Global: Regional Cities in a Changing World
In 1999 Thomas Friedman wrote a book called The Lexus and the Olive Tree, which claimed that thriving communities had to do two things at once: nurture community, and embrace innovation. Today, in a world of geopolitical change, economic turmoil and lightening-fast technological development, this is more true than ever. In this lecture, the Hon. John Brumby AO will make the case that regional cities are uniquely placed both to build strong local communities, and to take advantage of new technologies and global markets. In a changing and challenging world, regional communities can lead the way.
The Fairley La Trobe lecture is a partnership between the Sir Andrew and Lady Fairley Foundation and La Trobe University.
