Join us for the official launch of Defiant Voices â The Blitz Kids of Sheffield at the National Emergency Services Museum.
This special event marks the publication of a powerful new book capturing the first-hand memories of the last generation to remember the Sheffield Blitz of December 1940. The men and women featured in the book were children when German bombing devastated the city, killing and injuring more than 2,000 people and leaving nearly a tenth of Sheffield homeless. Now in their late 80s and 90s, their voices offer a rare and deeply personal insight into what it was really like to live through those nights.
What to expect:
You will hear directly from one or two Blitz survivors in a live, chaired conversation reflecting on their experiences and what it means to see their stories preserved in print. The event will also include a short introduction to the wider Sheffield Blitz 85th project and a moderated Q&A session, which will be livestreamed.
Following the formal programme, there will be time for informal conversation, light refreshments and the opportunity to view and purchase copies of the book.
Defiant Voices forms part of the Sheffield Blitz 85th project, delivered by the Sheffield Blitz Memorial Trust and supported by a ÂŖ91,280 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
