Introducing traditional/contemporary folk duo, Mills & Farrell. Comprising David Farrell, with a background in Australia rock, opening for acts such as INXS and Canned Heat; and Janet Mills from Nova Scotia, with a background in family folk tradition and kitchen music. Coming together for timeless ballads, two voices, and an unforgettable sound.
Expect a blend of original and traditional heart-wrenching tales with their own twist on Appalachian mountains meets Maritime salt, inspired by Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, The Milk Carton Kids, and The Waifs. Tragic tales of broken humans, environmental protest in lullaby, and distressed waterfowl, are some themes in their transportive and connective live experience.
Previously based in Nova Scotia, and on the board of the Helen Creighton Folklore Society, the duo have sought to reach further into the depths of folk by exploring the origins of many of their well known ballads on the other side of the ocean and have made the move to the North East of England, in Consett.
Mills & Farrell invite you to be present and share in their debut performance in Sheffield at Cafe #9.
“…this duo of Australian David Farrell and Nova Scotian Janet Mills once again shine with just acoustic guitar and their stunning dual harmonies.” - Martin Noakes, Great Dark Wonder
