Online program introduction: August 12, 6:00–7:30 p.m.
In-person and hands-on workshop: August 23, 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Join artists Chloe Crawford and Yani Aviles for a two-part accessible furniture-building workshop inspired by DIY wheelchair and furniture designs and Sheboygan’s Chair City heritage. Participants will design and create accessible seating using recycled materials like foam, wood, and hardware, exploring individual and collective needs.
The first session is virtual, introducing the project, the artists’ research, and group members. The second session is in-person at the Arts Center, where participants will build a collaborative bench and personalized seating. Finished pieces may be featured at the Arts Center or community partner sites in the 2026 exhibition How do you throw a brick through the window…
The artists will guide discussions around questions such as: What can we learn by sitting in someone else’s chair? What support do you need? How do we balance self-interest and mutual interest?
Open to teens and adults (12+). No woodworking experience required. Limited to 10 participants, with extra spots for assistants.
