About the event

Managing for Birds and Other Wildlife at Home: Forests
In this dynamic program series, homeowners will learn how to provide/improve increasingly important habitat for our region’s birds, whether that be forests, backyards, grasslands, or wetlands. Each program in this series will highlight a specific habitat type and present homeowners/landowners with management solutions that facilitate breeding success. Particularly, for birds that Audubon Connecticut and New York have identified as conservation priority species. Participants will hear from Audubon Forestry staff, Sharon Center staff, and homeowners who host a program.

When you think of forests, what comes to mind? Wildlife? Trees? Plants? What about a forest ‘for the birds?’ In our inaugural program offering for this series, we’ll be exploring how landowners can create a highly productive environment for birds through active management. Rosa Goldman, our Audubon CT/NY Forest Program Senior Associate, will walk participants through how birds use forests and what their needs include, depending on their species and lifecycles. It’s a truly fascinating discipline within forestry that’ll leave participants feeling more knowledgeable afterwards, both about forest structure and composition, as well as about forest birds. Program participants will also gain access to resources for managing their forests, both inside and outside of Audubon. We hope you join us!
